A "post-poliomyelitis syndrome" is characterized by newly developing muscular weakness and decreasing functional abilities as late complications of paralytic poliomyelitis and the clinical features are quite different from those of other
neuromuscular
disorders.
We recently experienced a 39 year-old man who was considered to have postpoliomyelitis syndrome and report this case in view of the necessity of prompting the disease entity and its management.
The clinical presentation included slowly progressive muscular weakness. decreased function. and previous history of poliomyelitis. The electromyographic findings and the pathologic findings are compatible with those of postopoliomyelitis
syndrome.
